The beautiful Cape Helderberg area offers a wonderful combination of nature and winelands. The Helderberg region incorporates the towns of Gordon’s Bay, Lwandle, Macassar, Sir Lowry’s Pass, Somerset West and Strand. The birdlife is prolific in the area and you will also catch sightings of bontebok, tortoises and duikers. The Helderberg Nature Reserve is the ideal spot for a relaxed picnic as you enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
The Cape Helderberg is one of the most visually dramatic areas in the Western Cape, with the Hottentots Holland and Helderberg Mountain ranges creating a powerful backdrop against which the valley descends into vineyards and finally on to the coastline. The vast expanse of white, sandy beaches, warm water, cliffs and coves make the Cape Helderberg region a tourist and photographer's paradise. Situated just 45km from Cape Town CBD, the Cape Helderberg region is a gateway to the Overberg, Winelands and Garden Route. The Helderberg has its own wine route with over 20 members, one of which is the historic Vergelegen in Somerset West.
For the adventurous, the Cape Helderberg area offers many hiking trails, a variety of watersports, abseiling and paragliding. Unwind on one of the area's three 18 hole golf courses, take the kids to Monkey Town, relax in the Helderberg Nature Reserve or sip sundowners on a cruise out of Strand or Gordon's Bay. From June to December each year whales can be viewed from the magnificent scenic coastal drive between Gordon's Bay and Rooi Els.
