 The main lodge serves as the hub of activity at Mackouwkuil. Nestled between a scenic ridge and a serene dam, the lodge has various large and comfortable gathering spaces for visitors to interact, dine, brainstorm or simply enjoy the views and relax. In the centre of the main lodge is a large welcoming, family-style dining room, warmed by a cosy fireplace during cooler winter evenings. Our chefs take pride in their mouth-watering healthy meals. The beauty of Africa is in full splendour at this reserve and the décor honours the heritage of the setting, with contemporary African style, including warm woods, local art and textiles, and inviting natural colours. Expansive lawns surround the main lodge, with a large, resort-style swimming pool taking centre stage. After a long hot day, what could be more relaxing than a cool dip in the pool, followed by story-telling around the camp-fire in our boma or in the one-of-a-kind lapa on the water? This is also the perfect place to come and watch Mackouwkuil’s resident pod of hippo and the myriad birds and wildlife that gather on the banks. Two state-of-the-art conference rooms (one 35-seater and one 70-seater), or our marquee tent next to the water, which can cater for up to 120 day guests, make Mackouwkuil the ideal venue for conferences, presentations and product launches. Should clients wish to film a speaker in front of an audience, the 70-seater lecture room can easily be transformed into a black box studio. The lodge has a fibre-optic network connecting all rooms, including the conference, accommodation and entertainment areas.
