The 4th Annual Shop Steward Conference will be held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Gauteng East Rand. The conference covers various leadership approaches that both parties can adopt while negotiating to avoid strikes at all costs. The number of strikes hit a five-year high in South Africa last year, with almost half of them being illegal or unprotected and involving violence of some form. Issues around governance were most prevalent in these disputes with both parties in dispute failing to exercise sound leadership.
