The Rhodes University’s Anthropology department will be hosting the Crossing Borders, Blurring Boundaries conference. The event will be held at Rhodes University in Grahamstown from the 29th of June to the 2nd of July 2014.

In today’s world, crossing borders and its outcomes are interwoven with the unravelling and crafting of peoples’ ways of living and formation of self. Giving an account of the journeying inherent in such crossings calls for intricate forms of attention – attention that is brought to bear on everyday life, its temporalities and locales. It is at the same time a call for a sophisticated blending of theory, empirical research and philosophical approach.

Anthropologists’ intellectual tasks are often to engage in unsettling hegemonic knowledge claims, yet they also enter productive cross-disciplinary encounters, in which shared audibility is hoped for, and in which disciplinary reshaping is incorporated.

The 4th International Conference on Financial Services will be held from the 2nd to the 4th of October at the Sun International Wild Coast Sun on the border between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal near Port Edward.

The theme of the conference “Critical Transition in Financial Services” aims to interrogate the current financial practices while identifying hindrances to efficiency and challenge financial institutions worldwide to practice and demonstrate sustainable banking and financial practices.

We invite you to join us in investigating the transition of the financial services in terms of:

  • the challenges in moving towards the Solvency II requirements
  • the cost implications of compliance
  • the adaption and response to the financial crisis
  • the regulatory impacts
  • the ensuring of sustainability through effective risk management

This conference is of a high magnitude, as evidenced by the inaugural IBC2007 at Sun City and the second IBC2009 and third IBC 2011, with the latter hosted on the MSC Sinfonia Ocean Liner. The aim is to attract, once again, respected specialists from around the world in the field of financial management and banking to share their expert opinion and experience on the relevant themes.

This year’s WasteCon conference is organized by the Institute of waste management of Southern Africa, and will be taking place from the 9th to 12th of October in the Eastern Cape town of East London.

Outdoor exhibition space is also available outside the convention centre entrance.
