November 18-19: Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry

Although now over a hundred years old, the fundamental aspects of flotation are still being intensively researched, and new machines developed. This two day symposium will focus on:

  • Fundamental reagent and flotation chemistry
  • Bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions
  • Flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale-up

The keynote lecture “Flotation research – does advancement require a paradigm shift?” will be given by Prof. Kari Heiskanen, of Aalto University, Finland.

November 20-21: Flotation Applications and Plant Practice

This two day symposium focuses on the application of flotation, and will include sessions on:

  • Plant Operations, particularly related to new technology, and process mineralogy problems
  • Flotation Circuits, and their modelling, simulation, control and optimisation
  • Flotation machine developments
  • Metallic, non-metallic and coal flotation
  • Environmental considerations

The keynote lecture “True Value Added in Flotation” will be given by Dr. Dariusz Lelinski, Global Flotation Technology Manager, FLSmidth, Salt Lake City.

The conference will be held at the Vineyard Hotel, in the leafy suburb of Claremont in Cape Town. The hotel offers a stunning view of the slopes of Devils Peak and Table Mountain on 6 acres of parkland.

The sixteenth Biennial International Symposium on Toxicity Assessment (ISTA 16) will be hosted by the University of the Western Cape. The meeting will be held on the luxury cruise liner, the MSC Opera, from the 21st till the 26th of February 2013. The meeting cruise will be a return trip between Cape Town and Walvis Bay, Namibia. Delegates will be able to experience excellent scientific sessions, Cape Town with its floral diversity, Namibia the driest sub-Saharan country and as a special bonus, the hospitality of the Namibian and South African people.

ISTA16 will provide a platform to present the latest information and discuss developments on all facets of eco-sustainability and environmental toxicology. The ISTA 16 will bring regulators, researchers, professionals, administrators, policy makers and NGOs together to exchange ideas, identify resource and research needs for the better management of public health and ecosystem, and to discuss strategies addressing consumer demands using sustainable and environmentally friendly industries. It also provides opportunities for networking and potential international collaborative research partnerships.

Young students and researchers are strongly encouraged to participate in the ISTA 16 meeting. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for meeting peers from all over the world and also for meeting potential supervisors for post graduate and post doctoral studies.
